The sustainable development goals (SDGs) are universal targets and indicators that UN Member States have agreed to and are expected to apply, when framing their agendas and government policies over the next 15 years. .
Among these goals: to end poverty in all its forms, everywhere; ensure healthy lives for all; end hunger/promote food security and improved nutrition for all; ensure equitable, quality education for all; achieve gender equality/empower all women and girls; ensure availability of water and sanitation for all; take urgent action to combat climate change; provide decent employment for all; reduce inequality in and among member nations.
Diez pointed out that to be effective, these SDGs, which follow on the UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of 2000, must be people-centred.
A native of Mexico, he joined the United Nations System in 1997, and assumed his current position in Port of Spain in December 2014.
Over the years, UNIC and UNATT have enjoyed collaboration on projects, which ultimately support the overall objectives of the United Nations organization.
