"United Nations System celebrates 70 years
UNATT celebrated the 70th anniversary of the United Nations System with a brunch at the T&T Hospitality and Tourism Institute (TTHTI) in Chaguaramas on Sunday October 24th.
The occasion, which was UNATT's annual fund-raiser, also commemorated the 19th anniversary of both UNATT and the TTHTI
UNATT is a non-governmental organisation whose mission is to promote the full participation of all peoples in the pursuit of human progress by complementing and supporting the efforts of the UN System through the dissemination of information to increase public awareness and understanding of its works and achievements.
During the formal part of the event, greetings were extended by Dr. Patricia Butcher, executive director, TTHTI and Richard Blewitt, UN Resident Coordinator. Elton Prescott SC, president, UNAAT also offered some welcome remarks.
The formalities were brief, giving guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy the delectable meals and the musical entertainment. In addition to the international dishes prepared by the students of the TTHTI, the Embassy of Cuba and the Jamaica High Commission provided national dishes. A painting done by UNATT executive member Dr. James Armstrong was donated for a Dutch auction. It was bought by Bertrand Wilson after some robest bidding.
Part proceeds from the event will go toward the Scholarship Fund of the TTHTI. Over the past three years, 15 students were assisted in furthering their studies."
